Morale
Greece achieved the first Allied land victory against Axis forces when they repelled the Italian invasion in 1940. This heightened Allied morale because Greece had proved that it was possible to fight against the Axis powers and win, and as a result, the win also lowered the morale of Axis forces.
Diversion of Resources
The invasion of Greece required the entire German 12th Army with several Divisions and a large number of aircraft and other equipment to be diverted from Russia to the invasion. On Crete alone, Germany used 25,000 soldiers and four military units.
The fight for Greece and Crete resulted in heavy losses for Germany and turned the attention of German military command away from Operation Barbarossa.
